Famulor Translate connects two people who speak different languages: each hears the other live in their own language — in the browser or by phone. Speaker 1 is the workspace user who starts the room; Speaker 2 joins as a guest without an account. Entry path: Settings → Engine mode → Translate. Then choose languages and voices, select Open translation room, set how each person joins, and choose Start conversation.

What is Famulor Translate?

Famulor Translate is an engine mode for live interpreted conversations between two people. For example, Tobias speaks German and Aleksandra speaks Polish: Tobias hears German, Aleksandra hears Polish. In the UI the mode is Translate; plans can include the Translate mode independently. Prompt, flow, tools, knowledge, memory and ordinary assistant conversation settings are hidden in this mode — their saved values remain when you switch back.

Related, but a different topic: the article on GPT-Realtime-Translate and live translation in 70 languages covers Realtime models. This post is the product how-to for the Translate engine mode. Feature overview: AI Translate. How-to: Translate docs.

How does live call translation work?

You choose the spoken language and translation voice for both speakers. The voice selected for a speaker represents that speaker in the other person's language. Use a library voice or an authorised workspace voice clone; the picker shows voices compatible with the listener's language. A private workspace voice can speak to a guest without giving the guest access to the voice library.

The room shows original text beside its translation as completed phrases become available. Completed phrases are saved in History; open an active Translate entry to return to the live room. Translate does not play the other person's original audio. If translation cannot continue, the room reports the interruption instead of forwarding untranslated speech. Web, call or dial-in — how do both people join?

Three options: Web with microphone and headphones; Call via a connected outgoing number (the host enters the international number; starting the conversation calls that person — either or both can use a phone); Dial in with an active incoming number on the translation assistant plus the six-digit room code, including any leading zero. Dial-in does not require an outgoing number. The guest can use Web or Call with any of Speaker 1's options.

The host invites with a private link or email — the guest needs no account. Guests can read the live transcript but cannot change languages or voices, place calls, send invitations or end the whole conversation. Recording and consent are separate settings: with consent on, each person hears a notice in their language and answers verbally; recording starts only if both agree.

What does Translate cost — and why is it not doubled?

One shared conversation minute uses the normal voice rate plus the translation surcharge once. Two speakers do not double this shared charge. Transcript observers add no charge. Phone participation adds the applicable carrier charge per actual connection: none for web-to-web, one for web-to-phone, two for phone-to-phone. Current rates are under Usage. Translate must be included in your current plan; a locked mode stays visible and opens the Plan page.

When does Translate make sense instead of a classic interpreter?

When you need a bilingual conversation quickly — a sales call, support, a partner sync — and you are not booking a sworn interpreter for a negotiation or authority hearing. Translate is not a substitute for sworn or court-ordered interpreting. For many everyday situations, trying it once is often cheaper and faster than organising classic interpreting: open a room, invite the guest, talk.

How do I start the first translation room?

Steps:

  1. Open an assistant and choose Settings → Engine mode → Translate.
  2. Set language and translation voice for Speaker 1 and Speaker 2.
  3. Select Open translation room — the room opens in a new tab.
  4. Choose Web, Call or Dial in, invite your guest, and select Start conversation.

Changelog entry: Speak naturally across languages with Translate.
